Lessons learned

Lessons I learned this week about taking care of sick twins:

  • Four hands are better than two.  I was so relieved when Lee said he was staying home to help.  I couldn't have done it without our tag team.
  • It doesn't matter how much you try to separate them, the babies ARE going to share germs.  Once one baby starts throwing up, the other is not far behind.  Don't be surprised when you finish cleaning up after one baby and have a brand new area to clean because baby #2 is throwing up.  Again, four hands are better than two.
  • Don't procrastinate on household chores.  Trying to hold a puking baby over top of an overflowing trash can just makes more mess to clean up.  The sink was full of dirty dishes, so we had to clean the sink out before we could give baths (the shower needed cleaning, too).  There were loads of clothes in the washer & dryer, so I had nowhere to put the dirty laundry.  Aye carumba! I have since, kept up with the basic chores so that we have everything we need as we need it.  Perhaps I should have tried this years ago.
  • When you hear funny noises during the night, it may just be a sick child, not your husband.  Check on the babies!
  • A daddy's love is unconditional.  To watch Lee hug & kiss M, even though she smelled funky & hadn't had a bath was one of the most tender, sweetest things I have ever seen.

  1. That's so precious Stephanie! And they are precious little ones! I really enjoyed your blog very much even though mines a teen now and close to leaving the nest i still look back on all the times Hannah was sick and all those long nights cleaning up puke and diaper mess, hold on to the memories for that is what you are left with when they are old enough to leave but they never leave your heart! My Great Grandma Church used to say when they;re little they're under your feet when they're older they're under your heart!
